Happy Friday! It’s time of another installment of The Weekend Edition. A series where I share a grab-bag of ideas for your weekend ahead. Think of it as a little dose of joy to kick-off your weekend!
In today’s post, you’ll find:
- a fascinating non-fiction audiobook rec
- my favorite show I’ve watched so far this year
- my current obsession with Jennifer Garner’s home tour with AD
- a complete list of all the buzzy shows coming out this fall

🎧 The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder by David Grann – This buzzy bizarre tale is well worth the listen, especially if you’re a fan of non-fiction, true crime, or survival tales. The book tells the tale of the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. They were in the midst of chasing a Spanish galleon (filled with treasure and troves), when it wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia. The men were marooned for months on the island with no ship, no food, and no patience for authority, which ultimately led to murder and anarchy. As someone who doesn’t always have the attention span for non-fiction, I liked being able to listen to the book while multitasking. However, this one was sometimes hard to follow at times because there are a lot of “characters” in the story. For some of the moments in the story to really hit ya, I think it’s best to listen to this with your undivided attention.
📺 The Artful Dodger on Hulu – When a friend recommended this show to me, I was hesitant at first because I have never read Oliver Twist and my knowledge of the book’s plot is entirely based off of the Disney animated movie, Oliver & Company. However, my friend was persistent, so I agreed to give the mini series a try. Two days later, I had binged through all 8-episodes and was searching online for petitions to sign asking the producers to bring the show back for a second season. It was that good! Here’s the gist of The Artful Dodger: In Australia fifteen years after the events of Oliver Twist, Jack Dawkins has left behind pick-pocketing to become a surgeon. When someone from his past returns to haunt him, Jack finds himself moving back into the world of crime. Starring Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Love, Actually & Nanny McPhee) as Jack Dawkins, David Thewlis (Harry Potter) as Fagin, and Maia Mitchell (The Fosters & Teen Beach Movie) as Lady Belle Fox, this period/thievery/medical drama (who knew that was a genre I’d be into) has been one of my favorite new shows I’ve seen on a streaming service in a while.
▶️ Inside Jennifer Garner’s Farm-Style L.A. Home – Architectural Digest got to step inside Jennifer Garner’s L.A. Home in a recent YouTube video, and I immediately started taking notes on how effortlessly Jennifer and her designers were able to add so much coziness and charm to the house.
After watching the tour, here are the things I want my dream home to have:
- giant sliding glass doors that connects the living room to the back patio
- a dedicated area in the kitchen for baking
- a library with moody deep blue-gray walls
- cute reading nooks scattered around the house. I loved what Jennifer said in the video – “if you’re building your own house, you might as well offer people as many great places to read as possible.”
- cheerful and unique stained glass windows
